Birds Of Canada
Reminds me of honey which I love... birds, bees, all that. It's great with toast or oatmeal, love it. Looooove honey.
Favorite track: Blossoms.
Blossoms blooming up the spine, showing up in time
Makeshift lattice for the vines, memorize your lines
In time
When i'm feeling all alone, lost without a home
Separate from the things I know, wondering where to go
In time
All this living on a dime, keeping down the child
In between the changing guard, find out what's inside:
See the diamond glimmering, rowing up the nile
When you find the time
touch down on the Tarmac
swing your bag over your back
flag a taxi down, drive right downtown then give her a tip and tip your cap
pay for a room on main street
kick off your shoes, put up your feet
it's been a long day of travellin', and nobody knows where all you've been so tonight you'll just watch TV
ba bada bada bada watch TV
wake up to the birds and the freeway
open up the curtains to the sun's rays
eggs and bacon and toast with jam, coffee with cream and you're a happy clam time to start another day
hit the strip and spend a ton
buy some souvenirs for your loved ones
a t-shirt and a packet of cards, a bottle of wine and a box of cigars and some souvenirs for your loved ones
ba bada bada bada have a drink
the little light turns green, so in you go
chinese and late night talk shows
you better get to sleep, you got an early flight, one more day and you'll be home by twilight that is, unless it snows
you crane your neck, you see the red
a crowd's gathering, shaking their heads
but no harm done, what's a little delay, it's a big city, go out and play or maybe just go back to bed
maybe just go back to bed
ba bada bada bada go to sleep
about
Simon: I saw Joel perform about 10 years ago in what is called Abbotsford and was hypnotized by his spirit. I've followed Joel's music starting with his band "Fields" (which frequented my ears as I came of age in this strange and delightful "city in the country"). I'm honoured to share a release with a sincere, playful and talented songwriter like Joel. I hope the listener can find something similar and different in this short-but-sweet listen.
Blossoms is a song that came to me as I was biking up Sumas Mountain in the spring time.

Joel: I've admired Simon as a person and as a presence in the Fraser Valley music scene for a long time. He is a true catalyst, a spark that doesn't always get the same awe as the flames he creates, whether that be as a DJ, a too-modest electronic music-maker, a touring drummer, or as a recording engineer and producer where I've experienced first hand his magical musical touch. It's a privilege to have one of my songs not only mixed and mastered by the friendly neighbourhood genius that is Simon Bridgefoot, but also be placed alongside one of his own brilliant songs.
Hotel Song is an old "lullaby for grown-ups" of mine that I wanted to give some new life, and I was lucky enough to get the great David Ivan Neil to lend his cozy croon for a verse.
